Frequently Asked Questions about Alleged Criminal Violations in Arlington, Edmonds, Everett, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Marysville, Monroe and the rest of Snohomish County, Washington

My DUI was reduced to Negligent Driving in the First Degree. Do I need to have SR-22 insurance? This was my first ever DUI.

The answer to your question depends primarily on what happened in the context of the Department of Licensing (DOL).  In most DUI cases, the Department of Licensing seeks to suspend the driver’s license. This can be challenged in a hearing if requested within 20 days. If not requested, the license is suspended. If the hearing result is adverse to the driver, the license is also suspended. So, if your license was suspended by the DOL due to the DUI arrest, you will need SR-22 insurance for three (3) years. Otherwise, you will not, unless some other incident besides this one requires it.
