Title 69 of Washington’s Revised Code (RCW) is known as the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. This Act classifies drugs into “classes,” based on how serious the legislature views each drug. There are many ways to commit a violation of Title 69, but most cases involve possession, manufacture, delivery, or an attempting one of those three methods.

Except for marijuana, simple possession of any quantity of drug, even pharmaceuticals without a prescription, can be charged as a felony.  In order for marijuana possession to be a felony, the accused must have possessed more than 40 grams.

Penalties for drug charges can be severe, ranging from no jail time to months or years. In some cases, where an accused allegedly commits the crime can have a large effect on a potential sentence. For example, if an accused was within 1000 feet of a school at the time the crime was allegedly committed, a sentence may be extended an additional 24 months.

Aside from jail time, the consequences of a drug charge conviction can be severe. Such conviction may make a person ineligible for federal student loans, many government jobs, and may also disqualify you from service in the armed forces.  Do not let this happen to you.
