Domestic Violence in Washington - Call (360) 659-4950 today for a free consultation

Ashbach Law Offices, LLC has extensive history representing those charged with Domestic Violence crimes. Recent results include dismissals, reductions in severity (felonies to misdemeanors), reduction in charge, and non-conviction results (bail forfeitures for reduced charges), as well as removing domestic violence allegations and dropping no-contact orders.

Generally, a domestic violence crime is a crime that involves either a) physical harm, bodily injury, assault, or the infliction of fear or imminent physical harm, bodily injury or assault, or b) sexual assault, or c) stalking, by one family or household member against another.
The definition of family or household member is quite expansive, and encompasses spouses, domestic partners, former spouses, people who have a child together, adult persons related by blood or marriage, adults who have lived together or are living together, people who are sixteen years or older and have had a dating relationship with each other, parents, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and grandparents.
Basically, if you are related to someone, or have lived with that person, you both are probably family or household members.
People who are alleged to have committed a domestic violence crime are subject to stiff penalties, including:

  • Losing firearm rights
  • Issuance of no-contact orders between the alleged victim and alleged perpetrator
  • Jail time
  • Inability to serve any jail time on electronic home monitoring.
  • Fines and court costs
  • Probation
  • Domestic violence treatment classes
  • Impact on custody or divorce proceedings
  • Deportation or denial of naturalization

Essentially any crime can be a “Domestic Violence” crime, provided it meets the requirements above. Typical crimes include assault (from 1st to 4th degree), Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence, Malicious Mischief, Harassment, Stalking, Violating a No-Contact Order, among many others.
